yo, brook here.
Welcome to Wednesday Wrap Up #8.
This is the series where I send you a few things that I find throughout the week that I think are cool.
Let’s get into them ↓
On mastery and the ripple effect:
“Who has long funeral processions? At whose funerals do thousands cry? For whom do the millions mourn? For those who will do what others are not willing to do. For the people for whom we erect statues. For Martin Luther King, for Gandhi, for Mother Teresa, for Lincoln. Gigantic funerals are held and great crowds, even entire nations, mourn for those who spend their lives not worrying about what others thought. Talk about having a ripple effect. Talk about mastery.” - Jeff Olson in The Slight Edge
simple fitness
Roast my take:
Fitness and health is needlessly complex.
After months of being without gym access, I have, at last, gotten access to a full-scale gym!
And all the following is unnecessary:
I am planning on doing a 3-day training split w/ a few primary movements
Day 1 - Chest and back
Incline bench press - dumbbell and barbell
Weighted pull-ups
Legs
Barbell back squats
Jefferson curls
Arms and shoulders
Barbell shoulder press
Bicep curls
Tricep skull crushers.
I do two cycles of this each week and have one dedicated rest day.
All of the above is unnecessary to make fitness gains.
Here is what is necessary:
Intensity followed by rest. And do it often.
I am scaling my training to what I can do. Scale your training for what you can do.
If you have access to a full gym, go for the full training split.
If you have only 15 mins a day to get some fitness in, then just do a few intense sets body weight squats and pushups (+ pull ups if you can).
Fitness is scalable. Don’t believe the bullshit that you MUST do this aggressive 6-day bro-split for training.
Remember:
Intensity followed by rest. And do it often.
Okay, now go ahead and roast it. Reply to me and set it ablaze.
something cool: find a spring http://findaspring.org
Want the most natural water possible? Look no further than natural spring water.
I found this website recently, and it helps you find local springs in your area.
Find A Spring is a database of hot and cold springs that is user updated and maintained.
Users on the site can post local springs as well as test results about water contents and minerals so you know exactly what is inside the spring water.
Spring water has a natural purification and filtration process and has minerals that purified water doesn’t contain.
Unfortunately, there isn’t a spring near me (according to their map), but there might be one near you!
Check it out!
nothing, except everything: a short film
I found this beautiful, slightly meta short film.
I won’t say more. Enjoy.
I hope you have enjoyed this week’s Wednesday Wrap Up.
As always…
KEEP GOING
