I did my first giveaway on X and you can too!
But you get to learn from my mistakes. The power of trust within your audience.

Hey! Brook Here :D
If you didn’t know, I ran my first giveaway on X last Friday!
It was a case study for my work on the landing page for Roasters Academy.
And it did pretty well.
Nothing crazy, but I achieved my goal.
What was that goal?
Get users to sign up to my mailing list.
But… I learned a ton over the course of 48 hours. And throughout the whole process of executing it.
Here is how you can execute your own giveaway based on a case study plus some tip and lessons at the end.
Step 1...
Actually doing the thing that you want to make a case study about and TAKE NOTES.
This is key… You need to actually do something.
And get good results. Don’t case study shoddy work lol.
For me, this was building the landing page for the first semester of Roasters Academy.
And they got 48 sales and over 13k in revenue.
While doing the work, journal about the process.
It will help you greatly when you go to write the case study.
Reflect and write about the outcome
You already know what got the good outcome, as you did the work.
Now you just have to quantify it into writing.
Just journal about the process as a whole, if you took good notes this step might already be done.
Find a format that works for your content.
I will not lie.
I used ChatGPT to make me an outline.
This is my very first case study, I wasn’t about to go in without some assistance.
With that said, don’t let AI write the case study for you.
It can NOT quantify your work better than you can.
Just do the damn writing.
You can copy my structure if it feels like it covers your content well enough.
Solidify your format.
Choose a platform that makes the most sense to you.
You already have writing, I recommend just making a notion doc, as that is what I did.
Here is what mine looked like:
Maybe a slide deck and a video would make more sense for your work.
You choose.
But ultimately, just make sure it conveys your work in an effective manner.
Now you have made something. Now it is time to deliver to your audience.
This is where it can be pretty complex.
I went with creating a landing page on ConvertKit and requiring the users to enter their email to receive the notion doc.
I did this by modifying a template from ConvertKit to match my branding, slapped some copy on there (that I deliberated over for WAY too long), and then put it on my domain of https://mail.brookslagle.com under https://mail.brookslagle.com/ra-case-study.
You will want to make sure all of your settings are correct. Particularly your incentive settings: modify the email and verify the website you want to redirect to after confirmation. (note: HarryWrites has a killer convertkit tutorial. You can find here)
All that is left is to launch.
Schedule up a tweet with some instructions. Or fire it from the hip.
You can manually deliver to their DM’s or use a service to auto-dm your giveaway content.
I used Typefully to schedule and auto-dm those who fulfilled the requirements in the post.
If you do use an auto-dm…
Make sure of one thing: Always state that you will message them with giveaway contents otherwise you are run the risk of breaking X ToS / spam policy. (more info here)
All that is left is to SEND IT.
Profit???
Success! I ran mine and you can as well.
Here are my results:
tweet and numbers ^
I:
gained about 10 or so new followers.
sent 22 dm’s (people who entered the giveaway).
had 14 visitors to the landing page.
have gained 5 subscribers to my mailing list (people who converted).
That doesn’t sound like much, but for me this is huge.
It is a 71% increase in my mailing list.
I went from 7 -> 12 lol.
If you are reading this… thank you for believing in me. It means the world.
And that is what this is all about.
I gained the most by sharing what I learned through my case study. That is the ultimate win with this giveaway. Sharing my experiences and knowledge to help others…
Within it, you can read the whole process, like how I never directly talked with the copywriter which was a huge pain, but you also get to see what gave Roasters the edge to convert nearly 50 users.
Check it out here: https://mail.brookslagle.com/ra-case-study.
Key learning:
BUILD TRUST WITH YOUR AUDIENCE BEFORE LAUNCHING.*
This is likely why I only got a 22% conversion rate on people who received a DM, and a 35.71% conversion rate on site visitors.
It was a free product, all the user had to do was enter their email and confirm it.
But giving up their emails requires a lot of TRUST. And I think that I lacked that within the majority of the people who entered the giveaway.
I should have engaged more beforehand and built up the trust.
Simple as that.
But this is also the start, and the start is the hardest.
Each requisite giveaway will increase the trust with my audience. As well as providing value and deepening my relationship with this.
some extra lessons and tips:
on mobile, your custom font you put into the custom css will likely NOT show. to solve this: use a close second as the default font in the UI & have a follow up with classic css. i.e. font-family: Inter, Open Sans;
include a post script at the end of the case study and plug your high ticket!
include a loom video of you summarizing the case study and telling the story with your voice. (this is something I didn’t do but wish I did)
if you are using a notion doc, make sure your publish settings are correct, here are mine that I used:
do some marketing pre-launch. generate some hype. it might help you a bit come launch day.
I hope you found this helpful!
