Brook Slagle โข 2023-12-27
Welcome to Wednesday Wrap Up # 11.
yo its brook.
sorry this one is late.
letโs get into โ
what I am making to avoid getting sick this winter: vitali-tea (ginger tea)
โ
general recipe (flexible): - a bunch of ginger root (~3-4inch) - turmeric (a good bit - no measurements here) - cayenne pepper (use your discretion on your spice tolerance) - honey (half a cup or so depending on how sweat you want it) - half a lemon juiced
instruction:
grate ginger into pot or dutch oven (skin an all)
fill pot about 3/4ths full of water
bring up to a boil then simmer gently
add turmeric and cayenne pepper
continue to boil for ~10 mins
let cool until around 140 degrees (use a thermometer please, donโt put your finger in scalding water)
put in honey at this stage (this allows the majority of the honeyโs nutrients to stay intact while still dissolving into the tea)
let cool even further to just being warm. add lemon juice at this point. (lemon juice benefits are extreme unstable at heat)
strain and separate into mason jars. my batch came out to around ~5x20oz jars.
Store in fridge and enjoy for the 5-7 days.
note: separation is natural; natural things settle and then separate. just shake it if this occurs.
Ginger tea has been known in traditional medicine and modern medicine to be anti-inflammatory. Pair it with turmeric and this drink is an incredibly tasty vitality tea.
Cayenne pepper is rich in antioxidants, lemon juice is inflammatory and flushes toxins out of the body, honey is the about the best natural sweetener to exist.
Other good add-ins are: - black pepper - cinnamon - maple syrup
I have been drinking this nearly every day (~10 oz a day) and feel so good.
Plus, it just tastes great.
Try it out!
new additions to my one-bag travel gear: post-christmas addition
This Christmas, I got some new goodies to add to my travel gear. Some I got for christmas from others, some I paid for.
matador flatpak - link: soap bar case that dries out the soap bar but doesnโt leak -
Nanobag standard - link: ridiculously small, packable tote bag with endless uses -
Darn Tough Merino Wool Hiking socks - link: Indestructible socks that are comfy + an life warranty and guarantee (aka endless socks when they get holes)
Decathlon Forclaz MT100 Down Jacket - link: Very inexpensive packable down puffer (this is a temporary solution for staying warm on the road. I would prefer to get a patagonia nanopuff or montebell plasma 1000โ
Decathlon Merino Wool MT500 Hat - link: Very minimal and packable beanie
Gravel MINI Toiletry bag - link: this thing is incredibly well-designed and super sleek. Replaces my clear plastic bag that I was using for 3 months in Mexico. Big upgrade for me.
what I have been binging: Outdoor Boys YouTube channel
I have been spending way too many nights up late, binging Outdoor Boyโs arctic camping videos. The combination of survival, knowledge, and entertainment is just unbeatable.
The hours just disappear.
This is the video that got me hooked linkโ
what i am reading: Going Infiniteโ
Going Infinite is the story of the rise and fall of FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried. The author Michael Lewis had an insane level of access to SBF during the fall of FTX and wrote Going Infinite about it.
I received this book for Christmas and so far I am about 30 or so pages in.
I am hooked. SBF was a weird guy. I canโt wait to read more.
Quote that I enjoy:
โ
Happy holidays!
As alwaysโฆ.
KEEP GOING
